Assessment Task #7
(Pro basketball game clip for a few seconds) Scene: The living room watching TV
Rowena- Basketball, only if i knew how to play
Sangeeta- It’s not that hard, we’ll show you
Zeenia- And we’ll tell you the different areas, positions and rules.
Vera- And we will also show you the pros.
Scene: Shows the different positions in the basket ball court
Zeenia- Here is a chart to show you all the places on a basketball court (point). This is the centre line, here the two centre players attempt to push the ball into their side of the court. (point) This is the free throw line and lane. The lane is there to stop the opposing team blocking the free shot. (point) This is the three pointer line, if you score from this line or behind it, you get three points. What are the basics?
Scene: In a basket ball court
Zeenia- The team with the ball is called the offense and the opposition is called the defence.
Rowena- So if the offence team puts the ball into play behind the centre line, they have 1o seconds to get the ball over this line. Is this right?
Zeenia- Yes, your right.
Vera- When a team gets the ball into the hoop they are given two points and the ball goes to the other team.
Zeenia- A free throw is worth one point, this happens when the oppoistion team makes a foul. Every game for four quarters for twelve minutes each.
Rowena- The game starts with one player from each team in the centre court, the referee tosses the ball and the player that gets the ball will tip it onto their side of the court.
Sangeeta- OK so those are the basics, what about the fouls. There are six different types of fouls.
Vera- The first is personal fouls, this means any type of physical contac like hitting, pushing, slapping or holding. (Show)
Zeenia- Another type of foul is charging, this is when a player pushes or runs over a defensive plater (show)
Rowena- Other types of fouls is blocking, violent contact, intentional and technical. (show)
Vera- OK, so those are the fouls... Violations?
Sangeeta- Well, walking or travelling with the ball is not allowed. You’re also not allowed to double dribble, this is when you dribble, pick up the ball and dribble again. (show)
Zeenia- if youre shooting the ball and a team mate pushes the ball into the basket, it’s called goal tending. There are also time restrictions such as only five seconds to pass the ball inbounds and you cant keep the ball for longer than five secondsif you’re being guarded.
Rowena- Thos are the violations, lets talk about the player positions. There are five people on court from each team. Two guards, two forwards and one centre. More specifically point forward, shooting guard, small forward, pwer forward and centre.
Vera- The point guard calls the plays and directs the offence. These are usually the best dribbler and passer. The shooting guards direct the offence and shoot. The small forward isnt called that because the player is small. They are the primary scorers and handle the ball well. It;s usually the most talented plyer.
Sangeeta- The power forwards are usally bigger than the rest of the team because they are ised for defence and rebounding. The last position is the centre, this player is very importnat and usually taller. They defend, block shots and rebound.
Zeenia- See, look how simple this game can be. (show) Maybe you can watch an actual game, its really fast places so it wont bore you (show)
Rowena- Have a look at these wonderful highlights of a pro game. Just look at the skills. (show)
Sangeeta- Well that’s all there is to it.
Vera- Go and try to play yourself now, we hope you learnt something from this video.
ALL- BYEEE!! (credits)
Assessment Task #6
Here is a brief structure of our video:
- Intro - professional basketball game
- The four of us gathered in a room having a discussion
- At the basketball courts displaying rules, fouls and violations
- Bloopers
- Credits
When we put our video together we discovered that the first part was much better and enhanced in quality compared to the second half. This was because our video camera battery ran out and we had no other option but to use the digital camera as we aimed to begin and complete our recording on the same day. We did not schedule another day to meet up as we did not have any other chance to. We attempted to insert some sort of title clip or frame to lessen the harsh impact of the second half but this did not do much good. The difference in the quality of film was quite visible and obvious, regardless of our various attempts to reduce the impact. This was a major mistake in our video. We also realised that the following scenes entered too quickly and cut into the previous one. We did our best to put some sort of pause but there were still some errors. Also, when we first uploaded our clips, we found that the beginning of every clip was slightly cut. The first few words stated by the person were cut and we were not aware of any reason as to why this was happening. We had started and stopped the camera at the appropriate time so that we gave some leave-way before and after the person had spoken. Eventually we managed to get the clips in better condition but some beginnings were still not in perfect shape.
Even though we had some major problems in our final production, it was considerably good, with its essence, shots, various techniques and other special effects to make up for the wrongs that had been done. Overall, it was a decent video which instructed viewers on the basics of basketball with other amusing clips to entertain and capture attention.

Assessment Task #5
We now had to put the different clips together and make smooth transitions. We also had to edit, add sounds and other special effects. We decided that this would have to be done throughout this week and in the lessons that were available to us.

Assessment Task #4
We decided not to focus too much on the script and the storyboard, but mainly on the filming. The aim of this assessment was to learn more about technology so we decided to experiment further with the camera and do other such things.
As mentioned before, we were weighing our options and decided to make an instructional video on "How to play Basketball". This was mainly because we thought meeting up and filming with props would be too much of a hassle. We had decided this a while ago however I never had the opportunity to update my blog. This would be easier and much more productive because we could film at school in the basketball courts. Through this, we would also learn something ourselves, and be able to differentiate between basketball, netball and other similar sports. Zeenia knew the basics and we had also done some research, with points we could include in our video.
We met up briefly at Vera's place where we wrote majority of the script and kept the roles mostly the same. Vera and Rowena had to tweak the storyboard and Zeenia and myself had to finish the script. At some point, all of us would be filming and then we would get someone to do it for us right at the end. The end was when we all had to perhaps be on the field and play basketball, to conclude.

Video Assessment #3
- Sangeeta - Commemtator/Filming
- Zeenia - Make-up Artist/ Filming
- Vera - Model
- Rowena - Commentator/ Film
I also started the script and we spread out the workload amongst the 4 of us. Zeenia and I would be in charge of completing the script (after she returned from Geography Camp), Rowena and Vera would be in charge of putting the together the storyboard, and then Zeenia and myself would assist them in the process. I had already completed and spread the Gantt Chart to all my members so that was out of the way. Before filming, it would be Zeenia and Vera's job to collect all the materials necessary for the actual make-up procedure during the video.
We had also planned out the beginning of the actual video. I would walk in as the commentator and begin by introducing everyone and what was going to happen in the duration of this video. Zeenia would then continue as the make-up artist with Vera being the model. Rowena would assist me as the commentator and we would take turns filming with Zeenia.
This was a basic outline of our roles and we intended to proceed from here.
However, we were considering changing our idea to meet our convenience and suit our purposes. We considered doing "How to Play Basketball". This way we would learn some new skills and share it with the rest of the class. We had considered this before but I never got a chance to post it on my blog.
VIDEO ASSESSMENT #2
I gained some valuable information and an idea on how to set it out. This was quite useful, but we encountered a problem. I thought that it might be easier to draw the storyboard by hand and scan it onto the computer. I wasn't sure as to whether it would work or not but I was willing to give it a try. This way we could have a detailed storyboard and keep changing it. We could also each take it home to do it, so that each member could contribute to creating the storyboard, once we got our idea straight.
I also voted to do most of the filming, Gantt Chart and Storyboard becasue that is what interested me the most. I wasn't thrilled about being in the video so I thought that this would be a reasonable choice. This was quite a productive lesson and I hope to start the Stroyboard and Script by next lesson.
